The Scientific Program
The R&D activity of the Centre is managed through 'clusters'. These are:
- Substantiation research and development cluster
This cluster will manage strategic and applied projects that explore ideas for new functional food development and establish the evidence of health claims associated with functional foods. A key role of this Cluster is to foster research that will facilitate commercialisation.
- Regulatory affairs/Substantiation framework cluster
This cluster will work on establishing a framework for the substantiation of health claims suited to ingredients, whole foods, whole diets and food service systems. The framework will be established with input from FSANZ and international food regulatory agencies. In this sense the Centre will act as a science advocate for industry.
- Market intelligence and innovation management cluster
This cluster will enable industry and companies to reduce risk by identifying markets for functional foods and ingredients. It will provide commercial direction for the substantiation program and promote uptake of innovation in the food value chain to maximise Australia's competitive advantage in export markets.
